Welcome to XON Alternative Energy

Alternative Electricity in a box charges power debates

South Africa is in the grips of an energy crisis. Eskom has been given the green light to increase the cost of electricity by 25% per annum for the next three years, which will effectively double the price of electricity in all communities.
Eskom has also been given the green light to build more power stations – coal burning power stations that will deliver thousands of tons of polluting effluent into the air.
Yet there are still South Africans who do not have power in their homes. Rural communities and informal settlements probably have the highest number of South Africans living without electricity without which they have absolutely no access to adequate lighting, adequate heating, or adequate security. They cannot even charge their cell phones without resorting to the daylight robbery prices being charged in the informal settlements – between R14 and R20 per charge.

System

That is until now. The Alternative Energy option from XON AE is a solar solution in a box that can be installed by anyone without special skills. It’s small enough to fit in a suitcase yet it can power five lights for up to 10 hours without recharging and it can easily and quickly charge cellphones.

The 12-volt lights it powers vary from security lighting attached externally to low cost housing to reading lamps that students may use to study by or general purpose lights for nocturnal household activities. It can even be used to power TVs and radios. Most importantly XON’s Alternative Energy solution dramatically reduces the cost of lighting and power in low cost homes. Units cost about R2 500 and, compared with the cost of candles and paraffin, provide a return on investment conservatively estimated at just 18 months but up to as short as five months.
